The Child, Youth and Family Health Network is a voluntary grouping of interveners and organisations whose work has repercussions on the health of children. The network is coordinated from The Montreal Childrens' Hospital.

Regional Training Program in Mental Health, Ottawa

The Pierre-Janet Hospital Centre manages funds for training in mental health issues throughout the region of Ottawa under the operationalization of regional training in mental health.

Below is a summary of training activities for the 2010-2011 season. You'll find information on how to register for interesting training sessions on topics related to Relationship-building and Leadership and specific intervention strategies for working with children and their families. The latter includes workshops on topics such as Divorce, single parenthood and bleded families, Dependance and domestic violence, Nutrition and eating problems in young girls and young women, Drug, alcohol and medication interactions in young psychiatric patients, Improving tools for working with youth, etc.

News Headlines: Public Health officials forced to re-think addiction strategies

Public health authorities have noticed a significant movement of injection drug users from downtown to outlying neighborhoods, like Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and the Plateau Mont-Royal, in recent months.

Noting a significant change in the consumption habits of drug users in Montreal and facing an "epidemic" of hepatitis C, the Public Health Directorate is forced to see re-evaluate its intervention strategy.

The SexEducator - Sexual health: Protect it!

This issue of The SexEducator is produced by the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, the Université du Québec à Montréal and Tel-Jeunes. The issue covers the following topics, among others: knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of young people with regard to sexuality and STBBIs, beyond the physiological consequences of STBBIs, treatment of STBBIs and prevention.

Given the resurgence of sexually transimitted and blood-borne infections among young people in Québec, it is essential to increase preventive actions.

The Health Status of the Québec Population - Newest Document Released

The third edition of the Health Status of Quebec's population (2010) was produced by the Director of Health Status Monitoring of the Director General of Public Health as part of the monitoring mandate set out in the Public Health Act of Quebec.

Intended primarily for members of the Department of Health and Human Services and its network, this document presents the latest iand most relevant information about the Quebec population and its determinants in a clear and concise manner that is easy to consult.

Flash Vigie: Quebec health watch newsletter for infectious diseases

This newsletter is distributed on the third week of every month. The goal of the publication is to identify situations of threat (real or perceived) to the health of the population in the field of infectious diseases. It also aims to keep track of ongoing monitoring and improving surveillance systems by providing information relating to data quality. It is produced by the Monitoring Office of the Directorate of Public Health Protection (DPSP) of the Department of Health and Social Services of Quebec.

However, paediatricians and other health care providers must be aware of the significant psychological, social and medical issues that face young people who are gay, lesbian or bisexual. Health impact of preemie births

Current practices could lead to serious public health problems:
While premature deliveries have become more common in the industrialized world, the long-term consequences on the health of newborns are still not well understood. But the impact of premature births is far from negligible, according to an editorial by Dr. Michael Kramer of McGill University and the Research Institute of the Montreal Children's Hospital at the MUHC, to be published Dec. 11 in The Journal of Pediatrics.
